Izraelski
oklopnih jedinica. U mirnodopskim uvjetima, pomažu pješadijskim
jedinicama, služeći svojim tenkovima kao pokretni bunkeri. Moto im je
"Čovjek u tenku će pobijediti". |

The
Israeli
Armor Corps is a corps of the
Israel Defense
Forces, since 1998 subordinate to
GOC Army
Headquarters. The Armor Corps is the principal maneuvering
corps, and primarily bases its strength on
Main Battle Tanks.
The
Armor Corps is the decisive corps in GOC Army Headquarters, and bases its
"crushing power" on its "fists of steel": a combination of mobility,
armor, and firepower. During wars, its role is, on the one hand, to lead
the first line of the attacking forces and to clear the area of the enemy,
while on the other hand, to block the armor forces of the enemy and to
destroy its tanks and armor. During peacetime, it reinforces the
Infantry Corps
while it performs security tasks, with the tanks serving as a mobile
bunker.
Motto:
Ha-Adam She-ba-Tank Yenatze'ah ("The Man In The Tank
[is the one who] Shall Win"). |

The Harel Brigade was established during Israel's war of Independence
and was part of the Palmach. Its first commander was 26 years old
Yitzhak Rabin. The brigade was primarily responsible for activity in the
Jerusalem area, keeping the road to Jerusalem open. The young brigade
lost 274 of its soldiers during this war. In 1959 the Harel brigade
became a reserve armor unit. During the Six Days War the brigade,
equipped with old American Sherman tanks stormed through the Jordanian
defensive line at the Radar Hill and later joined forces with the 55th
reserve airborne brigade to free Jerusalem. Colonel Uri Ben Ari
commanded the brigade during this war. In the Yom Kippur war the brigade
fought in the Egyptian front with Centurion tanks. On October 18, 1973
the brigade crossed the Suez Canal and fought deep inside Egyptian
