      Mornarička služba (NS) sastavnica je irskih obrambenih snaga čiji je zapovjednik predsjednik Irske. NS-om zapovijeda oficir koji zapovijeda mornaričkom službom (FOCNS) koji se nalazi u mornaričkom sjedištu u pomorskoj bazi, Haulbowline u luci Cork. Trenutno upravljaju s osam modernih brodova.  Prefiks L.É. označava Long Éireannach. NS je glavna pomorska agencija države i zadužena je za obranu mora, zaštitu ribarstva, borbu protiv krijumčarenja, spašavanje i potrage i provođenje irskih i zakona/zakonodavstva EU-a s irskom gospodarskom zonom. Ova zona se trenutno proteže na 132.000 četvornih milja. Ovo područje je otprilike 5 puta veće od Irske i iznosi otprilike 16% svih voda EU.

      The Naval Service (NS) is a component of the Irish defence Forces of which the President of Ireland is the Commander and Chief. The NS is commanded by Floag Officer Commanding the Naval Service (FOCNS) who is based in Naval HQ at the Naval Base, Haulbowline in Cork Harbour.  We currently operate eight modern ships. The prefix L.É. stands for Long Éireannach. The NS is the principal sea going agency of the state and is charged with Maritme Defence, Fishery protection, Contraband Interdiction Duties, SAR and enforcing Irish and EU laws/ legislation with the Irish Economic Zone. This zones currently extends to 132,000 square miles. This area is approximately 5 times the size of Ireland, and amounts to approximately 16% of all EU waters.

      Od 05. 2016. u Pomorskoj službi ima 1094 pripadnika svih činova, plus približno 150 u rezervnom sastavu Pomorske službe. Pomorsku službu predvodi glavni zapovjedni oficir (GOC) poznat kao "zastavni oficir koji zapovijeda pomorskom službom" (FOCNS flag officer commanding the naval service), koji ima čin komodora. Nevojna obuka odvija se zajedno s osobljem trgovačkih mornara na Nacionalnom pomorskom koledžu Irske u Ringaskiddyju, u blizini baze Haulbowline.

      As of May 2016, there are 1,094 personnel of all ranks in the Naval Service, plus approximately 150 in the Naval Service Reserve. The Naval Service is headed by a general officer commanding (GOC) known as the "flag officer commanding the naval service" (FOCNS), who holds the rank of commodore. Non-military training takes place alongside Mercantile Marine personnel at the National Maritime College of Ireland in Ringaskiddy, near to the Haulbowline base.

      Regrut pomorske službe ulazi u opću službu u drugim činovima obrambenih snaga. Nakon uspješnog završetka početnog tečaja (Recruit Training), novak dobija čin obični mornar (Ordinary Seaman), a zatim će ići na tečaj osposobljavanja za službu prije nego što se kvalificira za slijedeći čin  (Able Seaman).

      A Naval Service Recruit enlists for General Service in the Other Ranks of the Defence Forces. After successfully completing the initial Recruit Training course a recruit passes out as an Ordinary Seaman and will then go onto their Branch Training Course before becoming qualified as an Able Body sailor in the Naval Service.

*     Ove oznake činova su prvo uvedene za mornaričku službu, ali su uvođenjem epoleta sa zlatnim vezom ove vezene plavim koncem dodjeljuju Mornaričkoj rezervi (Slua Muiri). 2002. godine su ukinuti, jer je i rezerva uvela „zlatne“ činove. U kratkom periodu su nošene, uglavnom od mornaričkog osoblja oznake tamnije plave boje.

*      These rank markings were originally introduced for the Naval Service but with the introduction of the gold rank slider for the navy these blue ranks were then issued to the Naval Reserve (Slua Muiri).  In 2002 these were phased out and the Slua adopted the gold pattern. For a short period of time a darker shade of blue rank slider existed in this series. These were actually worn by naval personnel only.

**      Only produced in Leading Seaman for wear on the white front. There is a version with blue stripes.

      Mornarički kadet prijavljuje se u kadetsku službu kako bi postao oficir u obrambenim snagama. Nakon uspješno završenog tečaja za obuku kadeta na Visokoj školi pomorske službe, pomorski kadet dobija čin zastavnika ili podporučnika.

      A Naval Cadet enlists for a Cadetship to become an Officer in the Defence Forces. After successfully completing the Cadet Training Course in the Naval Service College, a Naval Cadet is commissioned into the Officer Ranks of the Naval Service as a Ensign or Sub Lieutenant.

      **** Ovakvi činovi su nošeni od 1940-tih godina na većini uniformi. Od 2001.godine nosi ih se samo na kaputu/bluzi. Veličina ovih epoleta je 140 x 60 milimetara.

      These ranks worn since the 1940s are the stiff board type rank that were worn with most forms of uniform dress.  Since 2001 these ranks are only worn on the overcoat.  The board size is 140 x 60mm.

      ***** Ovaj tip činova (navlaka na epoletu) je uveden 2001.godine. Zamjenili su tvrde epolete na većini uniformi. Veličina ovih navlaka je 100 x 56 mm. Komodori su zadržali tvrde epolete.

      The slider type ranks were introduced in 2001.  They replaced the stiff board series for wear on most forms of dress.  Slider size is 100 x 56mm.  For a period the Commodore retained a stiff improved board rather than a slider.
