      Državni odjel za kriminalistička istraživanja (Departamento Estadual de Investigações Criminais), poznat pod akronimom DEIC, izvršno je tijelo civilne policije države São Paulo i njegova je svrha obavljanje pravosudnih policijskih aktivnosti u istragama zločina poznatog i nepoznatog počinitelja, uz planiranje i provođenje strateških akcija za suzbijanje organiziranog kriminala u državi São Paulo.

      The State Department of Criminal Investigations (Departamento Estadual de Investigações Criminais), known by the acronym DEIC, is an executive body of the Civil Police of the state of São Paulo and its purpose is to carry out judicial police activities in the investigation of crimes of known and unknown authorship, in addition to plan and execute strategic actions to repress organized crime in the State of São Paulo.

      Vojna policija (Polícia Militar) države Sao Paulo je agencija zadužena za održavanje reda i mira u saveznoj državi Sao Paulo. Najbrojnija od svih saveznih država, sa svojih 180.000 pripadnika, razvrstanih u nekoliko bataljona (Batalhão de Policiamento Militar) djeluju na cijeloj teritoriji države Sao Paulo (247.000 km²) kao i regiji Veliki Sao Paulo (u kojoj je oko 40-tak gradova). Primarni zadatak ove policije je patroliranje gradovima, auto cestama i šumskim prostranstvima. Osnovao ju je 1831. godine brigadni general Rafael Tobias de Aguiar  kao Imperijalnu gradsku policiju Sao Paula.

      The Polícia Militar do Estado de São Paulo (São Paulo State Military Police) is a law enforcement agency (Polícia Militar) in the state of São Paulo in Brazil. It is the largest state police force in the country, with over 180,000 personnel in  several battalions (BPM - Batalhão de Policiamento Militar) all over the state as well as within the Greater São Paulo region (Grande São Paulo) which comprises 40 cities and towns. Its primary function is to patrol public places such as city streets, state highways and forests in the entire state. It was founded by Brigade General Rafael Tobias de Aguiar on December, 1831, originally as São Paulo Municipal Imperial Guard (an ancient full circle police).

      Ova policija ima dvije policijske akademije, od kojih je jedna "Escolinha da PM" (Policijska škola) zadužena za školovanje nižih činova, pripravnika do narednika, u znanjima potrebnim temeljnoj policiji (zakoni, savezni i lokalni, policijske procedure, prva pomoć itd...), dok druga "Academia do Barro Branco" obučava više činove i u rangu je fakulteta. Traje četiri godine i po završetku se dobiva fakultetska diploma. Za upis ju potrebno ispuniti uvjete kao i za civilne fakultete.

      This force has two police academies, one simply known as "Escolinha da PM" (Police School) where non-commissioned constables (holding ranks of Private, Corporal or Sergeant) are trained on policing duties, state and federal laws and other topics such as CPR training; whereas officers are trained at Academia do Barro Branco - this academy has a four-year programme equivalent to a University degree and thus has all the same pre-requisites and examination processes that regular universities in Brazil should have.

O BRAZILSKOJ VOJNOJ I CIVILNOJ POLICIJI

      Vojna policija (Portugalski: Polícia Militar, PM) je naziv za "preventivne" policijske snage. Svaka od saveznih država ima svoj korpus vojne policije koji vrši prevenciju zločina, dok se "civilna policija" bavi detektivskim poslom, forenzikom i kriminalističkim istragama. Ovlasti među tim dvjema policijama variraju od države do države. Na primjer, u saveznoj državi Rio de Janeiro, (gdje je vojna policija na lošem glasu) ovlasti su joj strogo ograničene. Iako ime doslovno znači vojna policija, nalaze se pod upravom guvernera, a ne federalnih institucija.

      The Military Police (Portuguese: Polícia Militar, or PM) is the name of the preventive state police forces in Brazil. Each of the states of Brazil has their own corps of military police, which carries out preventive police duties, while the "Civil Police" carries out detective work, forensics and criminal investigation. The exact balance of the policing workload varies from state to state. For instance, in the State of Rio de Janeiro, where the military police has a particularly bad reputation, its duties are much more limited. Although the name literally means military police, implying a gendarmerie, under normal circumstances these forces are under the authority of the state governor, as opposed to being a national institution, as is the norm in the Gendarmerie model.
