DIVISION*
1. OKLOPNA DIVIZIJA |
|
Prva
Evropi. |

1 (UK) Armoured Division has existed in the British Army since 1809 when
the Duke of Wellington formed it, in Portugal, from two British brigades
and one Hanoverian brigade of the King's German Legion. Therefore, since
its inception in the 1800s 1 Div has had strong links with this part of
Germany. In 1990,
following the collapse of the former Soviet Union, the British
Government conducted a defence review, which reduced the size of the
British Army from 155,000 personnel to 116,000. The impact of this
restructuring was that the British Army of the Rhine was reduced to a
strength of 1 Armoured Division with supporting troops. That division is
the 1st (UK) Armoured Division, which is now assigned as part of the
UK's contribution to the Allied Command Europe Rapid Reaction Corps. The
Support Command is based in Rheindahlen, (just outside Mönchengladbach),
with some 3,600 personnel. |

3rd (United Kingdom) Division, based at the heart of the British Army on
Salisbury Plain, is the only division at continual operational readiness
in the UK. 'The Iron Division' is made up of 1st Mechanized Brigade
(based in Tidworth), 4th Mechanized Brigade (Catterick) and 12th
Mechanized Brigade (Bulford Camp). The Iron Division can trace its
history to 1809 in Spain when in the early years of the Peninsular War
the future Duke of Wellington decided to adopt, for the first time in
the British Army, a permanent divisional structure to help him combat
the French. |

NOTES
KRATKA
OBJAŠNJENJA |
|
*
ljudi, kojom komandira general major. Britanska kopnena vojska ima dvije
divizije odmah spremene za razmještaj svojih komandi i podređenih
jedinica. To su 1. Oklopna divizija i 3. Mehanizirana divizija.
npr. Londonska kula („Tower of London“).
Walesa (Prince of Wales' Division), Kraljičina divizija (Queens'
Division) te Škotska divizija (Scottish Division). |
*
A division is a formation of three or four
brigades, around twenty thousand personnel, commanded by a Major
General. The British Army has two deployable divisions, capable of
deploying the headquarters and subordinate formations immediately to
operations: 1st (UK) Armoured Division and 3rd (UK) Mechanised Division.
London District is responsible for the maintenance of capability for the
defence of the capital and the provision of ceremonial units and
garrisons for the Crown Estate in London, such as the Tower of London.
Several infantry regiments are organised into five administrative
divisions based on the type of infantry unit or traditional recruiting
areas: Guards Division, King's Division, Prince of Wales' Division,
Queen Division and Scottish Division. |
