Although its purely a civilian badge nevertheless having a military connection. Why? Because among some few badges allowed to be used on a military uniform! The organization "Riksföreningen för skidlöpningens främjande i Sverige" (short: Skidfrämjandet) were started by a bunch of officers 1892. They wanted to promote Swedish citizens to stay healthy by skiing. In 1908 started "Svenska Skidförbundet" that took care of the competitive side of skiing so Skidfrämjandet could continue its promoting efforts. 1916 start for the badge "skidlöparemärket" (for men). 30 kilometer under 3 hours and 15 minutes was the demand for the badge in bronze (today is 2 hours 50 minutes - 4 hours 10 minutes depending on age). 2 hours and 45 minutes the limit for silverbadge when skiing was done 1917.

"LIBERTY DEFENCE" BADGE    ZNAČKA  "ODBRANA SLOBODE"  Frihetens Värn

Krajem 1940. godine novine „Svenska Dagbladet“, želeći promovirati i skijanje i streljaštvo uvode značku u bronzi, nazvanu "Skidskyttemärket".

In the end of 1940 came the newspaper „Svenska Dagbladet“ with ideá to promote both shooting and skiing skills they invented a new badge called "Skidskyttemärket" (bronze). Companionship start 12th of January 1941. Skiing 3 kilometers, shoot 6 shots at a distance of 200 meters, run on skii 3 kilometers more and a last round of 6 shots against the target. 160000 tried for the badge and 88000 did receive it. If you didnt have a rifle of your own to ski with instead a 8 kg heavy backpack could replace the rifle. During winter 1941-1942 the silver badge "Skidskyttemärket" was born. Requiered a little faster run but this year only 6 kg backpack when skiing without a rifle. Skidskyttemärket in gold follow 1943. Also decided that Skidskyttemärket was allowed to be placed on the military uniform!! Because of lack of snow was the badge able to get when running instead of skiing. To keep up interest was a special "Elitebadge" created 1945. In gold and bigger with Three Crowns on top. For this you had to go 12 kilometers on skii. The interest as a propaganda event was falling rapidly after 1945. 1947 last year to compete.

"IN THEIR FATHERS TRACK" BADGE    ZNAČKA "TRAGOVIMA SVOJIH OČEVA"

"In their fathers track" was nationwide march on ski's. It was established in 1940 by Swedish Ski Association and got huge attention in 1941 and in 1942 just as the "liberty defence" event. It was a huge success and proof of that:  217 000 approved tests in 1941and 120 000 approved test in 1942. The criteria was 10 km track and the time would be one hour fiften minutes for men and one and a half hour for ladies. This event was carried out during the period February 9th to 16th.

In 1940 Swedish Walking Association created and organized the “national march“. The purpose was to enchance the swedish people health and patriotism during WW2. These events repeated several times during the years 1940-45. There was a entry fee of 25 cents (öre). Those who did the predetermined march in a good amount of time was given the national march pin in bronze, silver or gold depending on the time. The bronze award was sligtly bigger than the other two.

SWEDISH-FINISH MARCH 1941 SWEDISH-NORWEGIAN MARCH 1945
Švedsko-finski marš 1941 Švedsko-norveški marš 1945

In 1941 the Finnish people wanted to compete against Swedes. A national march match between Sweden and Finland was created and took place in May 4-25, 1941. Not only was it a match between the countries but a support for Finland during the winter war. There where several criterias that had to be achieved: Adults had to be born in 1928 or earlier, if you were a child born later than 1931 you would not be allowed to patricipate. The walking distance was 15 km for the male competitors. You would have to do it in less than the maximum time 2 hours, 20 minutes. For the female competitors (and young boys born in 1928-31) the distance was 10 km. You would have to do it in less than the maximum time 1 hours, 40 minutes. In 1945 year there was a similar competition betwen Swedes and Norvegians.

Lingiaden was an international gymnastics show that was held in Stockholm in 1939 and 1949. The second Lingiaden was held as planned in 1949. The ambitiously organized event of about 14,000 participants became a sporting success but an economic loss business for the Swedish Gymnastics Federation. The federal secretary / president Agne Holström, responsible for the event, committed suicide after the end of the Lingad. No more Lingiades followed.

The school sports badge was available in 4 denominations: iron, bronze, silver and gold. It was about performing a passed exam in the various categories: endurance, swimming, running, jumping and throwing as well as participates in the compulsory gymnastics lessons. In case of lack of bathing facilities, dry swimming could replace regular swimming. The badges earned were personal and obtainable engraved on the back with the owner's name.

A badge is rectangular with a round, crowned centre. The round space is filled by three crowns on each side with several sprigs of laurel and berries. Below it says; "The youth of Sweden, its future" (Sveriges Ungdom Dess Framtid). On the reverse above the pin is usually written producer company name "Sporrong & Co Stockholm".
