Forças Armadas Portuguesas

      Portugalske oružane snage (Portugalski: Forças Armadas Portuguesas) se sastoje od Mornarice (Marinha), Kopnene vojske (Exército) i Zračnih snaga (Força Aérea). Formalni je komandant Predsjednik Portugala, ali u praksi vojska odgovara vladi, i to preko Ministra odbrane. Zadatak oružanih snaga je očuvanje teritorijalnog integriteta zemlje i njenih prekomorskih teritorija ko i učestvovanje u međunarodnim misijama pod patronatom UN-a i NATO-a. Skorije operacije uključuj učešće u ratu u Afganistanu, intervencije u Istočnom Timoru i Gvineji Bisao te misijama na Balkanu i Libanonu. Prekomorske baze i garnizoni se nalaze na Madeiri i Azorima. Trenutno portugalske oružane snage maju oko 45.000 pripadnika od kojih je većina u Kopnenoj vojsci.

      The Portuguese Armed Forces (Forças Armadas Portuguesas) include: Navy (Marinha), Army (Exército) and an Air force (Força Aérea). The President of Portugal is the formal Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces but in practice they answer to the portuguese Government via the National Defense Minister. The Portuguese Armed Forces are in charge of protecting Portugal and its overseas territories and supporting international peacekeeping efforts. Recent opertions have included wars in Afghanistan (2005), intervention in EAst-Timor (1999) and in Guinea-Bissau (1998) and ongoing peacekeeping responsibilities in the Balkans and Lebanon. Overseas garrisons and facilities are maintained at the island of Madeira and the archipelago of Azores. Currently the Portuguese military forces have 44,900 men with the majority of the manpower allocated to the Army.
